About me...

Hey everyone!

My name is Giulia, I'm an Italian student, born on 27th August 1990. In this blog I'm going to write about my erasmus experience here in Norway. I'd like to show you this city and this country (as far as possible) with my words, thoughts and point of view, so that you can catch something more than a touristic overview.

It has been a long time since I had decided to leave Italy and take part of an exchange program. I was about 16 years old. I had the feeling that I wasn't living in the right place, I don't really know why. I've always been charmed by Scandinavian countries and by that kind of Nordic enchanted and secluded lands. I also like to spend part of my free time wandering alone among woods and contemplating nature, feeling the wind blowing against my face and moving back my hair, watching the snow falling down and whitening the landscape and making houses all around looking like the wooden ones in fairy tales.
I love Norse mythology (or better, all kinds of mythology in general) and philology. Studying another Germanic language is an advantage both for my bachelor study (English and German language and literature, with course of studies in Germanic philology) and my personal interests. I plan to focus my studying on this subjects and to learn Icelandic, Finnish and Old Norse. I speak Spanish too and I can understand Latin, Ancient Greek and Elvish writings.

I'm vegetarian and I love animals, especially cats. I've been involved in promoting animals' rights, volunteering and other related activities.
I identify myself and my personality in a cat. I love freedom, autonomy and independence. I am an affectionate person but I always need to have my private time and my private space in my life.
Particularly with my last kitty Fuligine, whom I was really bonded, I've developed a kind of "language" to let us understand each other. She was that shaded mysterious part of unexplainable "me".

I'm a metal-head and I play classical guitar (and sometimes tried to beat my brother's drums). Even though the metal sub-genre I listen to most is Black Metal, my favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Metallica and Black Sabbath. I like to listen to classical music (especially Bach, Prokofiev and Grieg), folk and jazz.

In my free time I like to read and write. I read a lot (except during exams' times). My favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien and my favorite book is the Silmarillion. I like a lot fantasy stories because it reminds me to my childhood's memories. I was a creative child and I've always exploited the power of my imagination and lived with my mind in a kind of magic personal world, really far away from reality.
But I don't bind myself only to this genre. I read almost every kind of book, except for stupid love stories. Other writers I really appreciate are A. Rice, M. Heitz, C. Palahniuk, T. Mann, V. Hugo, E.A. Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, C. Baudelaire, I. Santacroce, M. Proust, J. Austen, K. Hamsun, P. Petterson, A. Baricco.
I don't write so much, just when I feel I have to. I also like to draw, paint and to cook vegan food.

I'm not religious at all, but I'm really fascinated by this phenomenon (enough to start reading parts of the Bible in more languages and compare them) and by observing how does it affect people behavior and lifestyle.

I love tea, any kind, I have more different tea boxes than food in my cupboard! I use to drink 4-6 cup per day (I know, I'm addicted). I love chocolate  too.

I don't have all these patriotic feelings typical of Italians, the only thing I miss from Italy is pizza :-O___________ (and it's probably the only thing who betrays my attempt to hide my origins).

Finally... I hate sports (I am really lazy), dishonest and envious people, Italians who deny pasta with ketchup :P
